The Corporate Benefits Compliance, Risk and Audit team is responsible for providing oversight of our benefits programs. The team generally provides audit coordination, compliance/risk review and consulting services for the Benefits team and our business partners, while performing the role of First Line of Defense (FLOD) for the department.

This role will be responsible for understanding/helping navigate the data security requirements for Corporate Benefits. This position will need to partner closely with our Third Party Risk partners (including our Information Security Consultant), HR Systems/TPHS (Third Party Hosted Services), Benefits Operations-Vendor Management Team, Corporate Benefits team members, Supply Chain Management, the Law Department, as well as other departments. This position will also need to be able to communicate with our senior leaders, as well as negotiate with our vendors.

The role will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring risk-based compliance programs to assure compliance with federal, state, agency, legal, regulatory and Wells Fargo requirements. The position will also need to be a data security expert, and will need to be a strong advocate for the Benefits team with our business partners. Duties will typically include: working with complex business units and provide compliance risk expertise and consulting for projects and initiatives with high risk to identify and mitigate regulatory risk in all business activities. Consults with the business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manage change to ensure regulatory compliance. Identifies training opportunities, designs/coordinates the development of training materials, delivers or coordinates training delivery. Reports findings and recommendations to senior management. Manages and/or coordinates production of periodic compliance performance reports for senior management, including trend analysis and recommended strategies. Manages project teams and may provide guidance to less experienced consultants. May directly manage 1-2 consultants.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Strong data security experience and acumen. Understands the corporate requirements (e.g. third party risk, TPHS), as well as appropriate laws pertaining to data usage for benefits, etc. (e.g. HIPAA security). First point of contact and consultant for the Benefits teams on data security. (Serves as a security risk advisor/SME for Benefits on information security, data usage, and technology risk.)

  • Understand the needs of the Benefits team (related to requirements to move the work forward); work with the appropriate WF business partners (e.g. ISC/Third Party Risk, Corp Risk, TPHS, Legal, Strategic Sourcing/Supply Chain) to understand/help advance the work.

  • Consults/supports end-to-end contract negotiations (e.g. RFP to contract execution).

  • Plan information security assessments (e.g. code review projection/queue management, and security plans portfolio management.) Works closely with Benefits Operations-VM team to ensure work is being anticipated, performed and tracked appropriately.

  • Monitor emerging vendor risk management requirements/policy changes and develop plans to incorporate into the existing VM portfolio (e.g. patching program, pre-contract security assessment, sub-contractor security assessment, mobile apps, etc.)

  • SME to meet/speak with vendor’s IT and security teams and their senior leaders about items related to WF vendor requirements (e.g. code review and other data security assessments); ability to persuasively negotiate with the vendor.

  • Resource for Benefits projects involving data security (including onboarding new vendors, if needed.)

  • Having strong partnerships with ISC/Third Party Risk, HR Systems/TPHS, etc. Ability to negotiate deadlines with our business partners.

  • This role needs to be a strong advocate for the Benefits team with a creative outlook as to “how to get the work done” while complying with WF and legal risk requirements.

  • Act as the HIPAA Security Official for the department

  • Prepares and presents quarterly Benefits Risk Review document to share with Head of Benefits (and other senior leaders, as appropriate); coordinate additional items from Operational Risk-VM and Business Continuity as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both
