What You Will Do

As a Trauma Data Analyst with Dell Children's Medical Center , you will have the opportunity to identify trauma patient population based on established criteria ,perform entry of data into the trauma registry with accuracy and efficiency , and attend daily trauma rounds to capture information on treatment and injury complications

Responsibilities:

  • Identify trauma patient population based on established criteria

  • Demonstrate competence in injury , procedure and mechanism coding

  • Complete the appropriate billing on all trauma patients

  • Perform entry of data into trauma registry with accuracy and efficiency

  • Demonstrate competence in data management , to include protection of privacy , integrity and quality based on established standards

  • Function as an active member of the self directed Trauma Service staff by: assuming accountability in problem solving departmental and organizational issues , and being accountable for personal education enrichment to further technical skills

  • Use clinical awareness to review patient care concurrently and retrospectively for events that fail audit filters and medical quality improvement indicators or otherwise indicate a need for review or corrective action

  • Complete data abstraction on patients who will be entered into the trauma registry

  • Attend daily trauma rounds to capture information on treatment and injury complications

  • Follow up with EMS agencies to obtain missing run sheets

  • Participate in data quality monitoring on a consistent and timely basis as defined by the needs of the program

  • Identify and record quality improvement issues identified in the initial data entry of the trauma patient record , and those issues identified by the trauma clinicians during the patients hospital stay , in the trauma registry

  • Perform a review of abstract each month selected by the Trauma Program Manager for abstraction and entry accuracy

  • Prepare data analysisfor Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Committee meetings

  • Perform data analysis and reports as requested by the Trauma Medical Director , Trauma Program Director and Trauma Program Manager as requested

  • Prepare and submit data to the: ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Program-Pediatric , Texas DSHS Trauma, Brain Injury, and Drowning Registries , and Capital Area Trauma Regional Advisory Council

  • Maintain a request log of all information released by the registry

  • Maintain a change log of changes that have occurred in the trauma registry

  • Compiles recurring and / or ad hoc reports of data in a timely manner

  • Perform statistical and / or data analysis utilizing registry query tools , Microsoft Excel and / or Access software

  • Participate in in the planning and execution of research projects

  • Participate in community activities / committees to maintain professional involvement with individual / groups concerned with emergency / trauma care

  • Participate in regular staff development and continuing education events to maintain state-of-the art computer and clinical skills / knowledge

  • Initiate independent learning activities to increase understanding and update skills

What You Will Need

Education:

  • Diploma

  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree required

Work Experience:

  • None required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Trauma registryexperience

  • CAISS certification is preferred

  • CSTR certification for trauma registry is preferred
